Family oriented movie - treating elderly with respect. A favorite for me.
Main character, Carrie Watts, portrayed so well by Cicely Tyson, yearns to return to her former home of Bountiful. She currently lives in a small apartment with her son & annoying daughter in law in a big city where her son has found work to support them, but not quite to the level he would really prefer. Mrs. Watts is a kind aged soul who just has that longing to return to old friends & her familiar home, & constantly finds peace in the Bible and singing hymn. Fearing for her safety (heart condition) her son tries to get her to forget the past & her thoughts about taking an "impossible" trip. Mother Watts doesn't give up on her "dream"....we follow her as she makes her plans to return to Bountiful..a town no one seems to remember. If you're like me, and have a tender heart for the aged, and just long yourself for those days of "yester year" when we were young & Mama & Daddy were still with us,....take this trip to Bountiful along with Mother Watts & meet those special friends she encounters along the way. She gives encouragement to strangers, & she finds tenderness in them. Feel the peace that precious memories can bring not only to dear Mrs, Watts, but just maybe to the reader also. I know it gave me peace, along with a few tears...just remembering what used to be.
