great thermal capacity with awesome features
I work on and build freestyle quadcopters and this soldering iron has a feature set that no other iron has. It is digital adjustable, holds a constant temp. under any realistic load you would ever see from tiny smd circuits to 14 gauge lipo supply wires. Different style tips (each with its own heating element and thermal sensor) can be changed out in mere seconds. It has an amazing thermal capacity (large wires or pads will not draw its temp down like other irons). when placed in cradle the control module lowers the temp of the iron to prevent tip oxidation and damage. when lifted from the cradle the iron resumes the temp that you had it set to prior to placing it in the cradle ( this takes about 2 or 3 seconds).It is very adjustable on just about every parameter such as how long it takes to go into idle mode when placed in cradle, F or C, audio warnings to tell when up to temp or when temp falls an assignable amount below the set temp. I could not ask for a better product. CAUTION watch out for cheap chinese clones ( you can research this on youtube or google to know what to look for, or just buy from a reputeable U.S. dealer. Hope this helps you decide on a really good iron, well worth its price.

Check it out - Awesome unit
Awesome unit, this is the 2nd Hakko I've purchased. 1st one a FX-888D and now the FX-951. Both perform excellent. TheFX-951 has the advance of sleep mode and auto shutdown that saves on the life of the tips. One thing you have to be aware of with Hakko's are how to properly make adjustments and changes. They appear simple looking based on the control buttons, but I highly suggest taking time to read the documents and watching some on-line videos. You will be totally surprised as to what you don't know if you've never owned a Hakko. In our shop we have gone thru 5 other units in the past 3 years and the Hakko is the only one that still works like the day we got it. Totally worth spending a little more for the quality and life span. EpR
