Very effective for shooting in automatic mode. It should have less megapixels and better image quality.
I'm a professional who bought this camera as something cheap, small and light, to easily take anywhere without worries. I also bought it to encourage my wife to take pictures and learn about it. The main negative aspect is that it doesn't export in RAW and therefore, what it does, it's very hard to edit. The second negative aspect is the low battery life. It's a little pathetic to have to travel with at least four batteries. What's fantastic about it is that it's extremely optimized to work with automatic mode. This means that the target customer are people who don't know anything about photography. Those people only understand megapixels and zoom, believing that more is better. It's the opposite and the least important. That's why this camera, for the price, is rich in megapixels and zoom. Pure marketing strategy. And that's a problem. Many megapixels on a small sensor are useless (6 would probably be ideal) and reduce the quality of each pixel. A lens with a large zoom range is worse at all. The result is poor quality photos, especially at high ISO. With less megapixels and zoom, this camera would be much better, but probably wouldn't sell that much...

Ver good camera
Pros: a very professional camera, excellent picture quality and the zoom is unbelievable. Cons: The users manual that comes with this camera is very basic and does not give any tutorial guidance on just what this camera is capable of. There are many features and workings to this camera that are not illustrated or mentioned in the basic user manual which I feel Sony for an extra £2 -£3 could have produced a more in depth user manual

almost a 5 star camera
A great camera, good optics, fairly easy to use. Just missing a couple of features to make it a 5 star, screen moves out to allow higher and lower camera angles but cannot be manipulated in the horizontal plane and time lapse would have been nice

Great bridge camera
I already have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX400V and love it. My husband has a Nikon DSLR and even with a bigger lens cannot touch the magnification of the Sony. Also the Sony has a great image stabilizer. A great all round camera for the complete amateur like myself who likes to take great wildlife photos to pictures of the moon with amazing clarity. If you want to be more adventurous then you can use the manual settings.

Impressive zoom, easy to use and a bargain
The zoom is impressive and the image stabilization is excellent. As some technical reviews have suggested the image quality is a bit less impressive but it is perfectly good for most purposes. Overall it does what I wanted at only a fraction of the price of a new long lens for my interchangeable lens Fujifim camera. It was also a mangers special from Argos, a saving of over 40% on the normal price. It arrived within 48h and was packed as new and with full 12 months guarantee having been checked by Sony.

Excellent Bridge Camera
Bought this camera to replace my older SONY DSC HX300. This a great does-it-all camera: Enough megapixels to take photos for large print I am extremely satisfied with it. The zoom range is fantastic, and the autofocus is pretty good. Colors are pretty true, and the camera can yield very sharp images provided your technique is good. The autofocus for both photos and video is quick and solid.

Very small light with a great zoom
This camera is fantastic, the ziess Lens produces very crisp pictures. I have a top end DLSR and wanted a camera to take with me anywhere without all the usual equipment? This is perfect, the only down side is its jpg only.

Brilliant beginner camera
I’m very much a novice user, but this camera is pretty straight forward to use and gives great images. Zoom capabilities are amazing, much better than I though which is great if, like me, you want to photograph birds and wildlife. Worth the money if you are just getting into photography.

Great for wildlife.
A great camera for use whilst taking pictures of wildlife in good light. At high ISO images are a little noisy but still usable.

Happy amature
this is a great camera, I'm so pleased with the pictures , taken in bad weather as well. I am a lazy photographer so the auto mode suits me fine. Over the years I've had a number of different makes so far this is the best.
