The Sigma DP1 compact digital camera uses three silicon embedded layers of photo sensors stacked to take advantage of silicon's ability to absorb red, green and blue light at different respective depths. The size of image sensor used in DP1 camera is approximately 10 times larger than those used in an ordinary point and shoot digital camera.The direct image sensor featured in the SIGMA DP1 ensures the capture of full and complete color. This camera incorporates both RAW and JPEG image recording formats enabling photographers to capture the highest possible picture definition and smaller file sizes.The Sigma DP1 camera features a large 2.5inch, 230,000-pixel resolution LCD monitor. Sigma Foveon cameras - slow but hi IQ (even the older ones)
I have 3 generations of both compact and full size DSLR Sigma Foveon cameras. They are not action camerad, but if image quality is really important to you, they are really brilliant for the price. The last two generations of Merrill and Quattro cameras can output poster size prints from full sixe raw files. One of the best re absolute image quality.
So good, I had to buy another. Used to have this and the DP2s, sold them and always regretted it. Just sold my two Leica Digilux 2s, to buy these two amazing DP cameras. There really is a wonderful clear, film like look to the Foveon sensor and the lenses in these DPs. Just cannot recommend them enough.
