A must have lens!
This lens was bought to replace my 50mm 1.4 lens. None of the Canon 50mm lenses seem to be very sharp wide open. This one, although a slightly different focal length, is much sharper and is also a durable lens. I spent a long time thinking about whether to get this lens or not given it is very expensive. My 50mm gave me some nice images, but the build quality was quite poor and focus was very hit and miss. When in focus it was generally plagued by lens soft spots and purple fringing. The pro 50mm seemed worse in image quality from what I had seen! This lens is quick, quiet, durable, and incredibly sharp. It is everything I need and it will be well used as a result. It is a lens everyone should own as it is just so versatile. Not as light or small as the 50mm 1.4 no, but the benefits far outweigh size and weight. A big investment, but one that is worth it, especially with how Canon lenses hold their value so well.

Already my favourite lens
Occasionally you have something that you love straight away and this lens is that something. For portraits in particular this lens is a dream. The way it handles light flatters the subject and for me that means so much more than whether it is or isn't sharper than another lens when under a microscope. It is smooth, quiet and fast to focus. There's not much you can't do with his lens, you just have to move your feet more than with a zoom. And if you do, you will be rewarded with great images.

Superb lens
Arguably Canon's sharpest wider lens. Great focal length, superb build quality, extremely sharp. The only downside is that it's not less expensive.

Must have canon lens
Great lens, canon “l” build quality, superb images and f1.4 means a great lens for night sky photography and also lovely Bokeh, my favourite prime lens by far

One of the best Canon products.
Sharp from F1.4, great color rendition, fast and durable lens. Another one is 85 1.2L, 135 2L, 11-24 4L, 70-200 4lIS. 35mm is must you have.
