The Sony HVRZ5U High Definition Handheld Camcorder is a compact HDV camcorder that enhances creativity and delivers the highest standard of optical and audio quality. Sony 'G Lens' is incorporated into HVRZ5U and gives excellent resolution, color, and contrast for breathtaking images that rival expensive interchangeable lenses. The HVRZ5U also features Sony's 3 ClearVid CMOS sensor system, using the technology of Exmor, to provide excellent low-light sensitivity. This makes achieving high-performance in limited light conditions easy. Sony's hybrid recording system incorporates an optional HVR-DR60 or HVR-MRC1K Memory Recording Unit, which allows simultaneous recording on tape and non-tape media. Z5U Oldie but goodie
The Sony Z5U 3CMOS camcorder is still relevant after all these years. Nearly top of the line when new, it has aged well because it shoots 1080P, has a great lens and can record with compact flash as well as Mini DV tape. It has professional XLR audio inputs, shoots good in low light and has a nice selection of cinematic picture profiles. Tape and Card HDV recording
This is one of the last Prosumer type, fixed lens, tape based cameras available. It records HDV to mini DV tape and comes without the card recorder but that can be purchased separately and recommended for card recording option. HDV format is an older format but still has it's place. This camera records to tape for easy storage and back up or to the MRC-1unit that was made specifically for this camera to record to compact flash card. Having the option to record both ways is important if the application requires one or the other. It is extremely good in low light but must be manually controlled or the gain has a mind of its own and footage can look super grainy in a low light environment. Overall with the access of cheap tape and as long as the availability to buy tape is around this older camera is a work horse and if HDV format can be used for your application this camera is a great option. Doesn't work for my purpose.
