Gunslinger Series
I know Stephen King is not scholarly reading, but the Gunslinger series is not easy reading. However, after giving it a chance it becomes very compelling. I got these for my 14 year old daughter because she likes the 'after world' creepy fantasy novels. I thought she was not enjoying it but it turns out she absolutely loves the books. She mentioned it took most of the first book before it started falling into place and became a real page turner. She is nearly through the third book. Now, her imagination is working well, and her Note 4 phone is taking a side line. I like that aspect of it, because it really is a quality story and offers some paradox type shifting between worlds. She admits that she feels good reading and realizes the phone does not offer her the same brain exercise- and it is a different kind of excitement. When she puts the phone down, she told me she just stops thinking about what she was doing. When she puts the book down her mind is racing about what the next pages will be like and she is building a whole world in her head, nothing like the world she lives in. I have to give Stephen King credit. It is an obscure novel and not a teen simple reading book, yet it is holding her attention, she said she is going read all his books.
