2002's 'Songs for the Deaf' became QOTSA's first Gold album in the US and their first platinum seller in Britain and Canada, spawning the hits 'No One Knows', 'Go with the Flow' and 'First It Giveth'. The musical cast includes guest drummer Dave Grohl, who put his own band Foo Fighters on temporary hold to record and tour with Queens of the Stone Age.
ReviewsRanked #8 on Spin's list of 2002's "Albums of the Year" - "...A feast for metal lifers who can no longer stomach Korn.", Included in Q Magazine's "50 Best Albums of 2002in, 4 Stars Out of 5-"...This Album Mixes Melancholy and Might to a Rare Degree...", p.6) - "Queens of the Stone Age get better with age....QOTSA's music is a comfort zone, thanks to its readiness to rock all night and party every day...", Ranked #31 in Uncut's "100 Best Albums of the Year", "Sftd Was a Vision of Dark-Hued Rock Brilliance Louder than a Bomb.", Included in Rolling Stone's "50 Best Albums of 2002in, Ranked #3 in Mojo's "Best Albums of 2002in, 5 Stars Out of 5-"... (A) Breathtaking, Virtually Flawless Album.", "All the elements which made its predecessor so great are here, but in excelsis...the thrill of these ensemble performances is downright scary.", Ranked #10 on Cmj's "Top 10 of 2002in, 9 out of 10 - "...All of what you might want from them and their music is here. There are great titles, displays of extraordinary rock'n'roll and great disturbing pop...", 3 stars out of 5 - "...This is prog grunge for the unpretentious....Whether the ace metal is speedy or onerous, it is always deployed in the service of the eccentric song structures, and every track becomes a splendid, mysterious thing."
I enjoyed this record it is a bit different to some other albums I have of QOTSA. At first I thought where are they going with this but gradually I got to like it. It is different but enjoyable
I bought this for my Son as he is a big fan. I have it on cd but my Son has a big vinyl collection. It was him that turned me on to the band as He knows I like a bit of down and dirty Rock n Roll. Love this album 🤘🤘🤘
