  • Clearly Explained Nutritional Guidance That Makes Sense

    I began the Whole 30 diet "lifestyle" 26 days ago. I highly recommend it, but even if you don't jump on the bandwagon to do the Whole 30, the book "It Starts With Food" is extremely educational, spoken in layman's terms, easy to understand information about what foods are good for you and which ones are not. Although I've tried many diets over the years (I'm 64), and I've read countless books on nutrition, this book and plan make the most sense. It clearly explains what each type of food (dairy, meat, grains, vegies, etc.) does within our body. What makes our bodily systems work best and which types of food cause inflammation, diabetes, heart disease, indigestion, constipation, IBS, etc... and how to reverse it. GREAT EDUCATIONAL READ.

  • Excellent book - brings science into the equation

    Whether or not you choose to attempt a Whole 30, this book brings great information about nutrition, physiology, and psychology. I've struggled with an unhealthy relationship to food for most of my life, and this book helped me understand the different elements at play - most importantly the physiological and psychological responses to food. There is such a strong mental component and it was incredibly helpful for me to identify that it's not just about how the food makes me feel physically, but the control and effect it had on me mentally. And I say HAD because after completing a Whole 30 my relationship with food has totally changed; I'm totally aware of my relationship with food and I'M in control now

  • Calls virtually all food BAD

    I was intrigued by this book and also the results I saw with my sister, but as I read it, I was very disappointed. Most food groups are considered BAD, leaving you to eat meat and non-starchy vegetables (with the occasional starchy vegetable). My mom tried this diet out and she ended up in the hospital for a few weeks from starvation. Obviously she had other problems, and I wouldn't blame the book, but it just does not take a balanced approach. (On the flip side, my sister lost 100 lbs using this diet and has managed to keep it off for over a year. But I still wouldn't recommend it.)

  • A new outlook on Life!

    I first bought this book last year in 2015. The moment I started reading, the content resonated with me like no other book material ever had before. I was interested in getting off of some of my medication and to see if I could heal my gut and get rid of my "wheat belly"; lower my blood sugar, blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol. After reading the book....I started on the "Whole 30" plan for eating.....a 30 day eating plan that rids your body of toxins and eliminates sugar and other cravings. All of my numbers went down with a side benefit of weight loss! I have given several of these books to family and friends in the hope that they will also want feel better and eat more healthy foods.

  • Excellent Book. I've recommended it over and over again.

    This is one of the best books on how to lose weight I've ever read. After just three weeks of following their advice I've lost 6.2 lbs. and I haven't been hungry or had cravings once. I've purchased four of these books and given them to friends and family who need help understanding the "why" behind their inability to lose the weight and keep it off. This book explains it very well and in a way that is easy to digest.
