Deep and resonating treatment of the "politics" of love in a family.
I thought this was a beautiful movie, brilliantly acted and feelingly portrayed by a superior cast. Phoenix, Paltrow (my favorite actress, I admit), Shaw and Rossellini were excellent, Shaw particularly warm in a role that invited warmth. The movie was not what I expected, but I was delighted by the result. Admittedly, I knew Ms. Paltrow's Grandfather when he was Chief Economist at Fidelity Bank in Phila., but her virtuosity stands on its own, as her many brilliant and diverse performances (e.g., Shakespeare in Love vs. Flesh and Bone) reveal.
