Reviews
"Reveals the boldness and originality of Kerouac's artistic vision." — The Boston Globe "It remains clear from his later letters that Kerouac understood what he was doing as a writer. He consistently explains his aesthetic, his plan to create the Duluoz Legend of books, and the essentially benign charity of his vision." — San Francisco Chronicle "Rambunctious and energetic . . . the letters convey the genius of that special American type—the perpetual motion man." — The Washington Post "Kerouac's letters and early stories supplement his legend, providing a fuller portrait of a true American original." — The Boston Globe, "Reveals the boldness and originality of Kerouac's artistic vision." -- The Boston Globe "It remains clear from his later letters that Kerouac understood what he was doing as a writer. Synopsis
An illuminating glimpse into the life and art of Beat legend Jack Kerouac through a collection of letters that "reveals the boldness and originality of Kerouac's artistic vision" ( The Boston Globe ). "It remains clear from his later letters that Kerouac understood what he was doing as a writer. He consistently explains his aesthetic, his plan to create the Duluoz Legend of books, and the essentially benign charity of his vision."-- San Francisco Chronicle The first volume of Jack Kerouac's selected letters was hailed as an important and revealing addition to Kerouac scholarship. This second and final volume, comprising letters written between 1957, the year On the Road was published, and the day before his death in 1969 at age forty-seven, tells Kerouac's life story through his canid correspondences with friends, confidants, and editors--among them Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, Philip Whalen, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Joyce Johnson, and Malcolm Cowley. Documenting his continuing development as a writer and his travels, love affairs, and complicated family life, the letters also reveal Kerouac's amazing courage in the face of criticism and his never-ending quest to be the best writer possible. Kerouac: Selected Letters 1957-1969 offers unparalleled insight into the life and mind of this giant of the American landscape., The first volume of Jack Kerouac's selected letters, published in 1995, was hailed as an important and revealing addition to Kerouac scholarship. - r***g (242)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufBook was "nearly new" and "as described" in listing. The advertised price was fair and a good value. Unfortunately, the seller's shipping partner was very slow to get the book packaged and shipped. Shipping took too long, and the tracking info gave no reliable info on shipping date, time in transit or expected delivery. Seller did everything right, but their shipping partner needs improvement. I recommend this seller to other eBay buyers....... just make sure you're okay with the shipping terms.
- e***u (283)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufThe listing was for a hardcover version of this book; however, I received a paperback. The Seller replied quickly to my question about this issue and issued a full refund - and let me keep the book. So, a diligent Seller for sure - and well packaged and reasonable timing on shipping. Thank you for the refund, and as you suggested, I'll likely donate this volume and seek the hardcover.
- e***n (392)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufGreat transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive.
