Over the course of 30 years Edward S. Curtis exhaustively documented America's first inhabitants. Follow along on his visits to 80 American Indian tribes from the Mexican border to the Bering Strait--working up to 16 hours a day to gain their trust and document their traditional way of life as it was already beginning to die out. This unabridged, hardback edition gathers Curtis's entire portfolio into one breathtaking volume., At the turn of the 20th century, the American photographer Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868-1952) started on his 30-year project to produce a monumental study of North American Indians. Using an approach that was both artistically and scientifically ambitious, he recorded, in words and pictures, the traces of the traditional Indian way of life that was already beginning to die out. With tireless personal commitment Curtis visited 80 American Indian tribes from the Mexican border to the Bering Strait, gaining their confidence through his patience and sensitivity. His work was printed in 20 volumes between 1907 and 1930 as The North American Indian , but with only 272 copies, originals became extremely rare.     Great transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville.     A Fascinating Cultural Record of the First Americans

    This book is an incredible and unique record of the way of life of many of the tribes of Native Americans still in existence around the turn of 19th century. Ed Curtis was a hero who sacrificed his entire adult life to document this for all generations to come. Everyone should see this book, what it shows is beyond words and explanations.

    A must for history and photography lovers.

    If you love history and photography, or the history of photography, this book is a must for you. Edward Curtis' story is as fascinating as that of the subjects he photographed. It's a good read and the photos are so unique. This is a rich piece of Native American history and that of our Nation. To have such a record of a time and peoples that largely no longer exist is a treasure.
