Reviews
" Miss Buncle's Book was a charming and funny book with a unique plot. Lot of shenanigans ensue that will crack you up." -- Christy's Books, "I stayed up until 1 am reading this one because I couldn't stand to put it down, not because it was so gripping but because it was so irresistibly funny and I had to know what was going to become of all of them." - Glass of Fancy, "If you like "Miss Pettigrew" or gentle books about bygone times which were actually written in those times and which take their time to set up the action, then this might be for you. Watch as Barbara Buncle blossoms and finds within herself the strength that's always been there, just waiting for its chance. RECOMMENDED READ " - Dear Author, "I highly recommend this for readers of sweet romances. But I also recommend it for those who would like a change of pace, are looking for something light and amusing, or find appealing the promise of a book that has the charm of vintage photographs and the comfort of a hug." - Just Janga, "Hopefully these new editions will open Stevenson's books to a whole new audience. They deserve it! " - A Lovely Shore Breeze, " This vintage book, which was written in the 1930's, is an absolute charmer, like its main character." - book addiction, " It's the literary equivalent of a nice cup of tea and a sit down - just what you want after a hard day at work. Or, in my case, a hard day sunbathing." - Book Snob, "Delightful, charming, warm, cosy - those are the type of words I would use to describe Miss Buncle's Book. " - She Reads Novels, "I read somewhere that this book was described as a "cosy" read and I think that is the perfect word to use for Miss Buncle's Book. It is a cosy fun lighthearted book where nothing happens and yet everything seems to change. " - Paperback Dolls, "Pour your tea and settle in because, from the opening pages, you'll be drawn into this small village, set somewhere in England, sometime between the wars. You'll probably stay the night. You'll definitely want a sweater. Because this book is hard to put down--and, despite what Miss Buncle may say, it is truly, truly imaginative." -- History Undressed, "So thank heavens for Miss's Buncle Book: a darling little tome that pulled me gently out a literary funk called what is the world coming to and reminded me that once upon a time authors like D.E.Stevenson created stories designed to cheer our socks off, merrily leaving our knickers intact and thrilling us with the merest of chaste kisses between the middle-aged lonely hearts of a village called Silverstream." - Brocante Home, " This vintage book, which was written in the 1930's, is an absolute charmer, like its main character." -- book addiction, " Miss Buncle's Book is a light-hearted, very English cosy type of story with a lovely old-fashioned feel to it ..... just right for those times you need to take a break from serious reading or want only to put your feet up with a cup of tea and relax." -- Tell Me a Story, " Miss Buncle's Book is a light-hearted, very English cosy type of story with a lovely old-fashioned feel to it ..... just right for those times you need to take a break from serious reading or want only to put your feet up with a cup of tea and relax." - Tell Me a Story, " Miss Buncle's Book was a charming and funny book with a unique plot. Lot of shenanigans ensue that will crack you up." - Christy's Books, "If you want to read a cute/funny, charmingly delightful book, pick up Miss Buncle's Book and devote an afternoon to reading. You will finish this book in that afternoon!" - Book Lovers Paradise, "This was my first story by D.E. Stevenson and I wasn't disappointed. This story goes to show that real life can be mirrored from a story and become art." - Luxury Reading, "People who enjoy the humor of The Help by Kathryn Stockett or those who enjoy a look at a small town community, such as that in the much older Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell, may also enjoy this book." -- Rebecca Reads, "I stayed up until 1 am reading this one because I couldn't stand to put it down, not because it was so gripping but because it was so irresistibly funny and I had to know what was going to become of all of them." -- Glass of Fancy, "If you own this one and haven't yet read it (Darlene I am looking at you), it is time to take it off the shelf and get to it. " - My Porch, "If you like a cozy warm caricature of life, try this sweet, easy story!" - Reviews by Martha's Bookshelf, "People who enjoy the humor of The Help by Kathryn Stockett or those who enjoy a look at a small town community, such as that in the much older Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell, may also enjoy this book." - Rebecca Reads, "If you own this one and haven't yet read it (Darlene I am looking at you), it is time to take it off the shelf and get to it. Synopsis
From beloved English author D.E. Stevenson who has sold more than 7 million books worldwide! In the first heartwarming book of this classic series, D.E. Stevenson proves that one little book can be the source of all kinds of trouble when residents of a small English village start to see themselves through someone else's eyes. Barbara Buncle is in a bind. Times are harsh, and Barbara's bank account has seen better days. Maybe she could sell a novel ... if she knew any stories. Stumped for ideas, Barbara draws inspiration from her fellow residents of Silverstream, the little English village she knows inside and out. To her surprise, the novel is a smash. It's a good thing she wrote under a pseudonym, because the folks of Silverstream are in an uproar. But what really turns Miss Buncle's world around is this: what happens to the characters in her book starts happening to their real-life counterparts. Does life really imitate art, and can she harness that power for good? With the wit and charm of a Jane Austen novel and the gossipy, small-town delight of the Flavia de Luce series, Miss Buncle's Book is D.E. Stevenson at her best!, "Watch as Barbara Buncle blossoms and finds within herself the strength that's always been there, just waiting for its chance. RECOMMENDED READ"-- Dear Author Who Knew One Book Could Cause So Much Chaos? Barbara Buncle is in a bind. Times are harsh, and Barbara's bank account has seen better days. Maybe she could sell a novel ... if she knew any stories. Stumped for ideas, Barbara draws inspiration from her fellow residents of Silverstream, the little English village she knows inside and out. To her surprise, the novel is a smash. It's a good thing she wrote under a pseudonym, because the folks of Silverstream are in an uproar. But what really turns Miss Bunde's world around is this: what happens to the characters in her book starts happening to their real-life counterparts. Does life really imitate art? A beloved author who has sold more than seven million books, D. E. Stevenson is at her best with Miss Buncle's Book , crafting a highly original and charming tale about what happens when people see themselves through someone else's eyes., Can one quiet woman's imagination shake an entire village? In this delightful classic of British fiction, the pen truly is mightier than the gossip. Originally published in 1934 and newly embraced by modern readers, Miss Buncle's Book is a timeless novel of quiet rebellion, unexpected transformation, and the magic of seeing--and being seen. Beloved for its dry humor, unforgettable cast, and loving satire of village life, it's perfect for fans of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, The Enchanted April, and Barbara Pym. Barbara Buncle--a respectable spinster with dwindling savings--decides to write a novel for extra income. With no imagination (or so she thinks), she turns to what she knows best: her sleepy village of Silverstream. But when her fictional town bears more than a passing resemblance to real life, the neighbors take notice--and not kindly. What begins as a whimsical experiment becomes a spark that transforms the entire community. And as fiction and reality blur, Barbara must decide whether a book can truly change her world--or just her place in it. Full of cozy village charm, sly wit, and a quietly subversive heroine, this novel-within-a-novel is a celebration of the transformative power of storytelling. Praise for Miss Buncle's Book: "Delightful, charming, warm, cosy..." -- She Reads Novels "This vintage book, which was written in the 1930's, is an absolute charmer, like its main character." -- book addiction "If you want to read a cute/funny, charmingly delightful book, pick up Miss Buncle's Book and devote an afternoon to reading. You will finish this book in that afternoon!" -- Book Lovers Paradise

- e***n (390)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufGreat transaction, exactly as described, packed well, and promptly shipped on August 6th. Unfortunately the U.S. Postal Service took 23 calendar days to deliver the book. It was shipped from Pennsylvania, to Atlanta, past Alabama to Texas, enjoyed several days in Texas, then to Minneapolis, Jacksonville, Florida, back to Atlanta, finally to Birmingham, and Huntsville. The seller was very responsive and I decided it was interesting to see if/how the book would arrive. Thanks, Joe
