The former teen star of "One Day at a Time" reveals her shocking, moving story about growing up in a legendary rock-and-roll family, the demons she has battled, and finally finding true redemption and peace., The eldest daughter of John Phillips and stepdaughter of Michelle Phillips, both lead singers of the 1960s band The Mamas and The Papas, Mackenzie Phillips grew up in a wild household, where a typical evening might include rolling joints for her dad or fending off advances by Mick Jagger. Far from idyllic, she describes her parents' home as "dirty and broken" with "very little going on inside except sex, drugs, and rock and roll.".     Well

    It would have been nice to know the book was missing its book sleeve and I'd have a plain looking grey hardcover version of the book I wanted. No outside book cover with celebrity photos and book details. I love my book. I did purchase it used, but it would have been nice to know I wasn't getting the entire 'used' product I meant to buy.

    Good read at first, but..

    Poor lady, I must say. But, the book seemed ok at first, until you begin to realize that 90% is her talking about drugs, rehan, leaving rehab, entering rehab, etc etc! It was exhausting. The part I enjoyed most was her going over the show "so weird" since I liked it as a kid. I also found her various relationships, and marriages interesting. All in all, just ok unless you don't mind the constant drug chatter...

    Intriguing

    It's great reading. Mackenzie is the perfect author. I feel like her friend. Always wondered what happened to her. A human making human mistakes and trying to live life anyway. I appreciate her.

    it appears to be honest in every regard

    I remember the One Day at a time show....was pretty good and we watched as we could. IT was a shame about Ms. Phillips and what was going on in her world...a very strange world...that circled around her father and his cronies. Her experiences truly demand to be told and I believe that this story is honest and true. It does reveal much about that world at the time that contained those in the entertainment sphere. Her start in American Graffiti is still enjoyable to watch. Realizing now what her life was like after she made that movie one feels that she could have produced many fine movies.... ...she was part of a very strange family...in a very strange times. that she survived at all is truly amazing.. I applaud her honesty.

    High on Arrival book review.

    High on Arrival by Mackenzie Phillips is a riveting true story about Mackenzie's battle with fame, drugs, her dad, her family, the cops, and herself. Glad I bought this book, and at very good price. I would recommend it to others. I thought it was interesting and well written.
