A movie very similar to Japanese TV shows in the 70s and 80s
If you liked the old Japanese TV shows in the 70s and 80s like Ultra Man or even Power Rangers, this movie is right up your alley. Gigantic creatures coming up from the earth's core like in old Godzilla movies are threatening mankind so giant robots powered by 2 humans inside the robot are created to combat these creatures. That's the plot in a nutshell of this movie. The effects are fantastic, the story is exciting, and if you watched TV shows like Ultra Man or even Power Rangers as a kid, this will be like going back to childhood. Otherwise, it will strike you as original and fun to watch.If you liked the old Japanese TV shows in the 70s and 80s like Ultra Man or even Power Rangers, this movie is right up your alley. Nothing new done rather poorly
This views like a merchandising promotion for a bunch of new toy products. A movie full of caricatures playing out roles on a path so well trodden it is like driving along a freeway at night, threatening your very consciousness. I can only imagine its target audience was actually pre-teen, in which case I suppose it might work. For anyone else its rather like a cross between the worse Transformer movie sequel and Battleship - which was universally panned but for which I now have a greater appreciation.This views like a merchandising promotion for a bunch of new toy products. modern monster flick
this movie reminds me of the 1960's Japanese monster movies. the battle between men and destructive beasts. it also has a common theme of how man has created the setting for the upcoming war. the alien/monster with the knife-like nose resembles the monster on a far away planet that Gamara fights. and the human made mechanical battle bots reminds me of voltron, thunder cats, and power rangers. of course the creatures,ect. are better detailed then decades ago. Great special effects and fun plot.
Watched it with my daughter who also enjoyed it. I understand there is a second movie as well which I will now look up.

Great movie
We love Pacific Rim and purchased this dvd as a replacement copy as our old one had skips - yes, skips on a dvd. We didn't want to be without this awesome movie. Many have problems with the science of it - but who cares? Giant robots and monsters! Clean movie too which I appreciate.
