Product Information

A group of senior citizens residing in a rest home find their lives turned upside down after they are offered the gift of eternal youth by benevolent aliens in Ron Howard's wonderful tribute to the human spirit. Brian Dennehy is Walter, an alien who returns to earth to rescue 20 of his friends now hibernating in cocoons off the coast of Florida. With the help of a charter boat captain (Steve Guttenberg), the cocoons are stored in a deserted swimming pool. When three men from a nearby retirement village (the charming Don Ameche, Wilford Brimley, and Hume Cronyn) sneak into the pool for a swim, they discover what seem to be oversized oystershells in the water. Suddenly they feel physically and spiritually rejuvenated, believing they've found the long elusive Fountain of Youth. The men's frisky behavior causes something of a controversy in the retirement village as residents are forced to choose between a second youth or accepting the more natural aging process. The ensemble cast of experienced actors, including Ameche, Brimley, and Cronyn as well as Cronyn's real-life wife, Jessica Tandy; Maureen Stapleton; Gwen Verdon; and the skeptical Jack Gilford all bring a dignity to the film's youthful, spirited theme. COCOON, one of the best films of the 1980s, is a heartwarming story that should be treasured for generations.

    Two good movies

    Two movies with wonderful old stars and great acting. Very engaging. Some beings from another planet have come back for a few days to rescue a few friends that were left behind. While they're here they take on the form of humans. They run into a few problems. When the old folks help them they end up feeling and acting young again. It's funny to watch this.They aren't able to rescue all of their friends and come back for the rest in part two. Both are very good movies.

    It aged well.

    I hadn't seen it since its original release and it's a quality film and really quite touching even in the cynical 2020's.i

    Decent buy for the price

    This was a factory sealed disk, and the feature set on the packaging stated that the edition that I bought included both full screen and wide screen, or letter box versions. The disk had info to that effect stamped into it near the center as well. Alas, the copy that I got only plays in full screen mode (I tried both ways). Maybe it was a factory second, or defective in some way. In any event, we opted to just keep it as it was a good price.

    This Purchase Had A Happy Ending!

    My wife really likes and wanted to watch Cocoon again as it had been many years since she had last watched it. Cocoon was not available for streaming and , after searching for awhile I found this deal on ebay. I have to admit I was kind of skeptical about the outcome of this venture but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this DVD. No regrets here. Most importantly: My wife was happy too.

    Two outstanding Classics

    I absolutely love Cocoon and Cocoon- The Return. It's hard to believe these are out of print. They are packed with many elderly actors and actresses and most have passed away now. They also star the beautiful Courtney Cox and also the beautiful daughter of Requel Welch. I recommend everyone who loves movies to add these to the IRS collection. You will not be disappointed.
