Featuring 55 missions that range from 15 minutes to over an hour, you can wrap your hands around the controls of 20 aircraft including the Airbus 321, the Boeing 747-400, the Bell 206B helicopter, a variety of Cessna and Beechcraft models, and the Douglas DC-3. A tutorial is available for beginners, while professional pilots and expert gamers can attempt more dangerous and time-consuming flights. Missions feature such short flights as taking a floatplane from Seattle to the San Juan Islands, to longer and more challenging flights like emergency landing an airliner over water.<br><br>Utilizing satellites and pictures from space shuttles, Microsoft Flight Simulator X manages to include 24 million roads, 10,000 accurately placed stars, and 24,000 airports. Improvements made to the graphics engine allow 6,000 objects per square kilometer, and vegetation and items for 23 distinct regions. For example, when flying low over Africa, you may see small huts in tribal villages and elephants grazing next to acacia trees. And by using models for human density reports, the game will render the correct amount of traffic when you are close enough to see cars on the street. Online play includes the ability to fly in a populated world, or be air traffic controller for fellow pilots.

    As good as you can get.

    This is 2006 technology in programing. I know of none better, though. There is a large online community which has many planes you can put into the game. You really need a good joystick-- about --$50. Very serious users will have multiple monitors & foot peddles. Go figure that you can spend $200 an hour for lessons in the real world.

    Incomplete review...

    As far as I can tell, the product is great and came as advertised (actually better). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want to work with Windows 10. I have a second machine with Window's 7 maybe it will work there. Everything was perfect except it doesn't work on my DELL...or at all in Window's 10. Understand, there was no guarantee or statement about being able to work with Window's 10.. I have a really high powered DELL L702 machine, with 8 gb of RAM, 3 TB's of Harddrive, `all w/3D capability, both current audio and video cards, JBL sound systems...it was really disappointing that this thing didn't work. Sometimes you just have to eat the $27.00.

    It's OK, but not Microsoft's Best Effort

    I've been using the 2004 version of "Flight Simulator", and found the user experience an improvement over "Flight Simulator 2000" my first. This 2006 version is a disappointment to me, particularly in the limitation of the view settings. I bought this to replace the 2004 edition, simply because it stopped working and the "patches" to fix the problem weren't working either. For the current used price, it's a decent value, but is just not compelling.

    Back in the Air again

    Bought this after a few years of not flying. Installed it and wow it is great. The tutorial lessons are great. Installed extra planes and I am having fun. I love the feeling of being free in the air. I'm even thinking of taking real flying lessons.

    A very good product

    When I first ordered this, I was expecting fsx. But instead, fsx Gold edition came, which is even better! Gold edition has more detailed graphics and more airplanes than the original fsx, and you can still play multi-player with someone who has the just the fsx, which is why I bought this game. I don't know if they regularly ship the fsx gold, or not, but I do know that both are very good for training, multiplayer, and just doing your own thing. Another great thing is, for mine, it sparks and smokes when I land without any landing gear. ( if I have the realism settings down). So overall, a very good game!
