The book presents an overview of the problems of contaminant hydrology in cold regions and includes basic guidelines for conducting groundwater modeling to meet environmental requirements. It defines the status of cold regions contaminant transport models and provides example applications of models., Environmental contamination in cold regions poses unique problems. It affects traditionally pristine areas and presents substantial operational difficulties. The extreme temperature range, soils and geology, the unique biological diversity, the freezing and thawing of pollutants, and the impact of human activities make environmental site assessment and remediation a challenging task.
