Product Information

Sidney Lumet directed this film version of Peter Shaffer's dramatic play, transforming theatrical symbolism into cinematic realism. Richard Burton received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance as Martin Dysert, a psychiatrist determined to unravel the disturbed mind of Alan Strang (Peter Firth), a young stableboy. In a fit of rage, Strang has blinded a stable of six horses. The court then assigns Dysert to probe the young man's mind in order to understand why he committed such a violent act. But the doctor, who is battling demons of his own, wonders if he can save the boy--and whether saving him at all is the right thing to do. Joan Plowright stands out as Dora Strang, the young boy's mother.

    The seller sent out the item very promptly. The book was in the exact condition that was advertised and pictured (which was great quality, clearly well taken care of). They also packed the box so that there wasn't any additional damage during transit, which was highly appreciated, so thank you!     Well Worth Watching

    I don't know if this film is entertaining for everyone. I found it amazing. The story revolves around a boy's journey through his psychiatric troubles. He blinded several horses for which he was caring. Peter Firth is the actor who portrays the young man (17 y.o.). He does a superb job. Especially considering he does about half the film while totally naked. Richard Burton is his psychiatrist. Their interactions are what provides the plot. Each has their individual musings and dreams which revolve around their interactions. It is a film well worth watching.

    Great movie with intense graphic scenes.

    Nominated for 5 Academy Awards in 1978. Brilliant movie. Some scenes are highly graphic and hard to watch. About a young man obsessed with horses who is being treated by a psychiatrist (Richard Burton). Thanks.

    great acting but very disturbing film for adults only

    Richard Burton and Peter Firth are terrific in this disturbing adult film. Not to everyone’s taste. Significant nudity, language and animal (faux of course) brutality
