Inspired by a true story, My Mother's Secret is a captivating and ultimately uplifting tale intertwining the lives of two Jewish families in hiding from the Nazis, a fleeing German soldier, and the mother and daughter who save them all. Franciszka and her daughter, Helena, are simple, ordinary people...until 1939, when the Nazis invade their homeland. Providing shelter to Jews in Nazi-occupied Poland is a death sentence, but Franciszka and Helena do exactly that. In their tiny home in Sokal, they hide a Jewish family in a loft above their pigsty, a Jewish doctor with his wife and son in a makeshift cellar under the kitchen, and a defecting German soldier in the attic-each party completely unknown to the others. For everyone to survive, Franciszka will have to outsmart her neighbors and the German commander.     ☆☆☆ Seller. Is not the picture of actual recieved item. Listing photo was pulled from internet and used as placeholder, according to sellers listing. Thats on me for buying the cheapest one without looking at listing fully. Would have been better to not use another persons photo on seller's listing as the specific guide book advertised has reflective bits, the one i recieved did not.. At least it arrived and is decent enough to use and look at. Packed ok. Shipped promptly. Thank you.

    Fantastic price, faster shipping than expected, item as described. However, packaging was a thin plastic envelope instead of bubble/ cardboard. Book arrived new yet slightly damaged. Not worth asking for a return due to the very low price, yet would suggest to seller/ future buyers to have better packaging for shipping. Thanks.

    Well the stock photo was just that, a stock photo and the item did not include the other material shown, which I had asked about. A chance you take. Otherwise, in good shape, shipped promptly, plastic bag envelope (nothing wrong with that for the price, but subject to beatings by the PO dolts. Yes, i will still buy from them if the price is reasonable.

    My Mother's Secret

    I read multiple books per week. I'm currently reading a lot of novels from the WWII time period. The story of this book is very good. It is also well written. The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 4 or 5, is that the story could be SO MUCH MORE detailed. The author could have given so much more about each family involved, more specifically how the "Mother" changed the lives of all involved & saved them from an unspeakable fate, including her own.

    Minimal detail and character development.

    This book is like Cliffs notes. It tells a story of 3 families over several years, it's only about 160 pages. There is no detail and very minimal character development. It is several years in a few page chapter. The book could have been easily 300 plus pages. You get a glimpse into the story but no detail. Very disappointed. Not worth the money.

    Based on a true story

    I read that this book won awards and wanted to read it. I'm about 50 pages in and it is not very detailed. Sorry. I will read it to the end but I was not impressed with the book due to lack of detailed writing
