This CD is fabulous!
The Statler Brothers are one of the best 4 part harmony groups ever and this CD is packed with many of their greatest hits. The best part is, it sounds as if it was recorded now. And many of the songs have the original tenor, Lew Dewitt, who was a founding member of the group way back in the mid 50's. Lew passed away in 1990 and had to stop performing with the Statlers in 1981 because of ill health. He tried to make a comeback with the group in 1984, but it only lasted for a week. He recommended that Jimmy Fortune take his place during his absence, and Jimmy did and added a new dimension to the group with his beautiful voice. Fortune remained with the group until they retired from performing in 2002 and his beautiful song "Elizabeth" is featured on this CD. Fortune wrote it and sang lead on it and it is one of the best and most requested Statler songs. It is my personal favorite, but not by much because I love everything they did.
In short -- you cannot go wrong buying this CD. I had over 400 record albums at one time and just as many cassettes. I have many CD's now and this CD is easily in the top 10 of my collection. It has something you rarely hear today -- beautiful lyrics, beautiful music, and the most beautiful harmonies you will ever hear. If you buy this CD and aren't happy with it, you are either tone deaf or listen to the crap they play on most radio stations today and don't appreciate real music and harmonies. The best part is, you can buy it on EBAY so cheaply, it's almost like stealing.
