He's not heavy, he's my Contax RX
The first think that strikes you when you pick up a Contax RX is that it is a heavy beast. And that should be good reason to put it down and find yourself a lighter, gentler camera. I own some other Contax cameras. Notably the Aria. It does mostly everything an RX does in a very similar package that has been considerably shrunk both in size and weight. So the Aria is better, right? Well, no. It isn't. The Aria is somehow disappointing. It just seems to underwhelm. I do not love the Aria. I do not stay awake at night thinking up photography projects to take it on. In fact I'm probable going to sell it. In complete contrast, the RX is a camera to love and cherish. I do not feel the weight of it because of the joy in its use. The build is top-of-their-game Contax. The titanium curtain shutter has a very satisfying 'ker-shik' noise, like a slightly loud whisper. I was surprised to find a very effective focus indicator built into the display. Together with the beautifully designed Carl Zeiss manual lenses it is incredibly easy to get your subject crisply into focus. And while I'm on the subject of lenses, C/Y Carl Zeiss lenses are rather well priced (although they won't stay like that if I keep bleating on about it), apart from the desirable 35mm f/1.4, that is. Better still, they adapt easily to my mirrorless camera, so I get a double bang for my buck. The camera also has some other nice features. In particular, I like the aperture bracketing control that can be set to +/- half a stop or a full stop at the push of a switch. The auto-exposure lock seems a little clumsy at first, but as you get used to it, it comes to make a lot of sense. The exposure compensation dial is nice and easy to use, as are all the controls and the mode lock ensures that you don't accidentally waste precious film in the wrong mode setting. The viewfinder gives an excellent field of view and has a clear digital read-out of the various settings, including depth of field indicator, although the jury is out on how effective this is. A fly in the ointment is the non-reusable 2CR5 battery that is required, although I had no trouble obtaining these on the internet. So do I recommend buying one of these? Yes. Without reservation. Wonderful Camera
I recently received this camera and it is in excellent condition, some brassing on the on the battery cover but the rest of the camera is nearly faultless. All controls work as they should as well as the electronics. I've been wanting to get back into film photography for quite awhile and I had to do a lot of research on 35 mm film cameras and to get this particular one at such a reasonable price makes me absolutely thrilled with this purchase.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Contax RX? Simply Superb - I want you to show me what love is ...
This is the most qualitative film slr camera ever. A wonderful piece of machinery and with its Japano-German origin an all time absolute perfection is within reach. A superb camera where there is easier to tell only the minor disadvantages - and this is partly its size and that was it, there is nothing more to mention. The size and weight itself are even not too much it is simple the only thing I am missing to have my own dream camera (The RX is significantly smaller than the Nikon F4, the Contax AX and partly even than the Leica R9). The Contax RX is not meant to be the highest level of a professional film camera on purpose, so it does not have some features such cameras have, but that is not a disadvantage because it is not meant to have it. If I would dream of a film camera, which should be the single best possible one, than I would have a smaller and lighter RX but the very same as the RX and additionally with some of the features of other professional cameras like the exchangeable prism-viewfinder of Nikon F3 especially its enormous sport-viewfinder and I would like also matrix metering like the Nikon FA, Nikon F4 or Contax Aria and this very special colour-matrix metering as by Nikon F4 meant for colour slide film. This would be the very best camera for me and I would not miss autofocus at all. The Function and quietness of the Camera is amazing.
This camera is one of the best, which has been produced by Contax. It is quite compact and also very good at light metering and aperture controlled photography. High precision pro spec camera.

The camera has problems with shutter blades
When I shoot A mode, some of the pictures have half dark at high speed (1/1000s). This happens to 5-7 frames out of 24 shots. Now I can not use this camera.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Gebraucht

Contax RX
Excellent camera with focus assist: this is very helpful especially in dim condition. All buttons and controls are at the most ergonomic positions. The available functions are more than adequate for most photographic situations.
