Synopsis
One of the first European-originated histories of Japan to appear in the English language, this remarkable work revealed many of the Asian nation's ancient secrets to the world-many of which have once again been lost in the mists of time and political correctness. The author tells the story of Japan from its earliest recorded time, but focuses in particular on its relations with the outside world and the effects of its interactions with European nations in particular. Among the amazing revelations in this book:-That writing was introduced to Japan from China via Korea,-That the Japanese believed that trade missions from Europe were a precursor to a white invasion and waged an intense race war to halt them, including the promotion of attacks and murders on European explorers and traders,- That only after leading Japanese nobles went to Europe 'under cover' as humble servants to spy on European intentions, was it realized that there was no white plan of conquest,- That the Japanese leadership made a conscious decision to send delegations to the various European nations to select the best of each country's institutions (social, political and economic) to copy and transplant them to Japan,- That the almost overnight transformation of Japanese society from an antiquated rural society into an industrial giant was achieved by copying European technology.- How the Japanese brutally suppressed attempts by Christian missionaries to import Christianity to that nation,- The measures taken by the Japanese nobility to protect the racial homogeneity of their nation and their restrictions on European influence, and- The dramatic story of how superior European warfare technology eventually broke the Japanese isolation and their subsequent embracing of that technology.A fascinating account of Japanese history written from a European perspective., One of the first European-originated histories of Japan to appear in the English language, this remarkable work revealed many of the Asian nation's ancient secrets to the world-many of which have once again been lost in the mists of time and political correctness. The author tells the story of Japan from its earliest recorded time, but focuses in particular on its relations with the outside world and the effects of its interactions with European nations in particular. The seller was very responsive and answered me on a timely matter. The product itself came in its packaging and was new, not used at all. The packaging was not beat up or anything, safely delivered to my mailbox. No mix ups and zero stress with delivery. The price for the product is completely understandable for the product. I really appreciate the seller and I am very happy to have purchased through this seller. Completely trustable!

Leaving positive feedback because 1) item was packed well & arrived as described 2) seller did give partial refund when subsequent price dropped below org purchase price. 3) communication was quick However, there was a downside to this transaction -item listed as in-stock but ended up waiting nearly a month for them to get it from their distributer then ship it to me (bought June 29th, arrived around July 21). Auction said 12-15 days. Better clarity would have prevented lot of frustration
