The Gold Standard
Wimberley is the gold standard. The fit and finish is impeccable. Azimuth (tilt) function is silky smooth with a great adjustment range. There are cheaper alternatives, but why? You spend good money on a body and glass to put it on a pedestrian mount? Not worth it. It can also handle more than what it’s rated for in my view. The foot mount is very well made and clamps strong. The issue of weight is namely a function of the ball head from what I can tell. Main thing with this is to achieve proper balance. If you don’t, it won’t operate smoothly. Other reason to go with Wimberley, if you decide to re-sell in the future, it likely will hold more value and sell faster. Used market for this brand appears hot...

Great product for the nature photographer
I use a Really Right Stuff B-55 ball head and Gitzo tripod for much of my work. However, that combination is less than ideal when shooting fast moving sujects (read nature and sports). The Wimberley, when combined with my RRS, provides a smoothly functioning gimbal head ability without the cost (over $1200 more) and carrying penalty (around 4 pounds more) of another complete tripod and full gimbal head. This very well machined and finished addition easily fits within my bag, mounting it takes less than 10 seconds, and I can balance all of my Nikon D810/lens combinations easily. Next best thing to a full Gimbal head
Just received my Wimberley Sidekick. Was not sure if this would work as I wanted but it has proven to be everything I wanted and needed. Using with a Nikon D500 with a 200-500mm f/5.6 lens. Whole rig is between 7 and 8 pounds and this on my Induro BD2 ballhead has been nothing short of amazing. Looking to get a smaller tripod like the Induro Baby Grand or Benro HH100AV Hit Hat tripod for tabletop use, macro use or low to the ground angle shots. Added functionality for a great ball head
I have the large Really Right Stuff ball head and this is a great addition to it. Once level, it allows the camera to remain level while tracking birds or what ever you are shooting. It is obviously strong enough to provide a life time of use. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is I am using it with the Sigma 150-600 Sport lens and a Canon 5D3 &/or 5DS; when the lens is mounted on either camera at its balance point the controls for the lens are not accessible. You have to rotate the lens & camera which can be done without removing the lens from the Wimberley, so it is not a game killer. You can also mount the lens from the other side but then you cannot get your hand around the camera grip and that just does not work for me at all.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Generalüberholt

Great compact alternative to full gimbal
Turns a solid ball head into a gimbal; much lighter than carrying a dedicated gimbal. It easily supports my 500mm & D850 on a Manfroto X-Pro ballhead. A full gimbal does have some advantages, but for packing light, can't beat the sidekick.Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Generalüberholt

Near to a Gimbal

Wimberley Sidekick (refurbished) looks like new!
