ReviewsRanked #27 in Melody Maker's list of the top 30 albums of 1991 - "The sound of the 70s hacked up and reassembled in the 90s.", Highly Recommended - "..many credit the band with what has become known as the Seattle sound...Soundgarden stomps all over these tunes...", "With a more Metal Approach than Many of Their Peers, It's a Complex, Dark Piece of Work..."
Interesting time signatures, huge riffs and incredible vocals make this one of the most satisfying listening experiences of the grunge era of the 1990s. Like contemporaries Alice in Chains, Soundgarden had more prominent heavy metal influences. Tracks like Jesus Christ Pose and New Damage are crushingly heavy while Outshined has one of Soundgarden's greatest guitar riffs. Sounds fantastic on vinyl too.
Just a stunning album, arguably the best of the 90's, definitely up there. Soundgarden's peak, mixes older rock classic styles (Led Zep for instance) with a heavier/slower dirty grunge vibe. Soundstage/production is excellent (especially on vinyl). Timeless!!!
