SynopsisThe daughter at the center of the international bestseller Not Without My Daughter completes her story: escaping from Iran, growing up in fear, battling deadly disease, and learning to forgive. Two decades ago, millions of readers worldwide thrilled to the story told in the international bestseller Not Without My Daughter--subsequently made into a film starring Sally Field--that told of an American mother and her six-year-old child's daring escape from an abusive and tyrannical Iranian husband and father. Now the daughter returns to tell the whole story, not only of that imprisonment and escape but of life after fleeing Tehran: living in fear of re-abduction, enduring recurring nightmares and panic attacks, attending school under a false name, battling life-threatening illness--all under the menacing shadow of her father. This is the story of an extraordinary young woman's triumph over life-crushing trauma to build a life of peace and forgiveness. Taking readers from Michigan to Iran and from Ankara, Turkey, to Paris, France, My Name Is Mahtob depicts the profound resilience of a wounded soul healed by faith in God's goodness and in his care and love. And Mahmoody reveals the secret of how she liberated herself from a life of fear, learning to forgive the father who had shattered her life and discovering joy and peace that comes from doing so., The daughter at the center of the international bestseller Not Without My Daughter completes her story: escaping from Iran, growing up in fear, battling deadly disease, and learning to forgive., The daughter at the center of the international bestseller Not Without My Daughter completes her story: escaping from Iran, growing up in fear, battling deadly disease, and learning to forgive. • Upsetting but enlightening

Though at times I found this hard to read because of the trials and suffering Mahtob and her mother had to endure, it helped to be able to read about her day-to-day living during the better times. I was especially impressed with Mahtob’s faith and God’s faithfulness to her through it all. She also clearly conveyed the power of forgiveness which has kept her in relative peace in spite of all she experienced .

  • Not as good as "Not without my daughter."

I enjoyed most of the book but so much of it made me feel like this family was over reacting and dragged many others in the fray. I was also disappointed in Mahtob's dismissal of her father' death. I was not able to finish it after that. What I really loved about the book is the mentions of name of places she went and foods Mahtob ate. I was able to google each item and learn more. Many more books should be written like this.

  • Great!

I saw Not Without My Daughter and immediately wanted to know what became of sweet Mahtob. I was thrilled to find out she'd written a bpok and was excited to get it. It did not disappoint! It was definitely a different perspective and I was intrigued. I've just received another book-For The Love Of a Child-which is the second book Betty Mahmoody wrote and can't wait to read it tomorrow.

  • Great daughters perspecive

I am in the process of reading it & so far it is really good. I had just finished her mothers book & so thought it would be a good idea to see a different perspective from the daughter. Mahtob was only 6 at the time of their escape & it is interesting to see what she remembers of the whole ordeal.

  • Good Read!

After reading Not Without My Daughter, I was really interested to get Mahtob's perspective. Her memory of events and her ability to keep up the charade in order to escape were amazing, especially for one so young.
