This honest and objective study of Patricia Hearst is one of the best books I've read about her (Hearst). First of all, I don't think Ms. Hearst to this day understands what happened to her during her kidnapping. She was in fact "brainwashed" (for want of a better term) since anyone of average intelligence can see a twenty year old does not do a 180 from a spoiled rich girl to militant "freedom fighter", turning against her native country. This book deals a lot with the bank robbery trial in 1976 and the blundering of her main attorney. The main reason of the guilty verdict is because Ms. Hearst did another 180 on the witness stand, saying she hated the S.L.A. and did not present a good defense, along with her sarcasm and arrogance. She was in fact used by the S.L.A. to promote their "revolution", and the jury was not educated enough to understand "brainwashing".
