"...it's a pick not only for military libraries, but for any in-depth public lending collection considering additions to World War II and aviation history alike, creating a powerful and different focus which sets it apart from more general-interest historical surveys of politics alone." - California Bookwatch (September 2007), "...it's a pick not only for military libraries, but for any in-depth public lending collection considering additions to World War II and aviation history alike, creating a powerful and different focus which sets it apart from more general-interest historical surveys of politics alone." -California Bookwatch(September 2007), "...it's a pick not only for military libraries, but for any in-depth public lending collection considering additions to World War II and aviation history alike, creating a powerful and different focus which sets it apart from more general-interest historical surveys of politics alone." -- California Bookwatch (September 2007)

Synopsis
Airborne warfare reached its peak during World War II - the only war in which the potential gains of using airborne tactics ever justified the great costs, both material and human. The revolutionary developments in tactics and equipment meant that whole divisions could now be inserted behind enemy lines to initiate surprise attacks. However, the risks taken by these brave soldiers, both Allied and Axis, cannot be overstated, with horrific losses suffered by both sides. This book gives an overview of airborne warfare during World War II, looking not at the German, American and British paratroopers involved in the war, covering their recruitment, training, tactics and battle conduct, and the battles they fought. Covering Operation Mercury - the German assault on the island of Crete in 1941 and the first strategic use of airborne forces in history - the tragic British attack on Arnhem in 1944 and the American airborne assault near Utah Beach on D-Day, this book traces the evolution of airborne warfare throughout the war and gives an insight into the experiences of the brave men who dropped into battle., Airborne warfare reached its peak during World War II the only war in which the potential gains of using airborne tactics ever justified the great costs, both material and human. - 4***7 (217)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter Kauf1st edition, 2nd impression edition of "The Drunken Forest," by Gerald Durrell is as pictured & described. Arrived quickly & safely! Got a great deal on it! Great communication! The book, with a protective mylar cover, was wrapped in bubble wrap, then wrapped in sturdy cardboard, then placed in a rugged bubble mailer! Fort Knox in a mailer! So hard to get an early edition of this classic! So happy to add to my growing collection of nature & science books! Thank you! !!Seller Highly Recommended!!
- d***d (548)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufExactly as described, looked brand new, great price. and packaged really well. At first was not provided a tracking number, contacted seller and they immediately responded, got tracking number but only problem I was given a tracking number for ups not usps and after reading some reviews they said they got a ups tracking and it was actually usps not ups. I was able to track it by tracking usps. Other than that small mixup everything was perfect. Will purchase from again, very happy with book
