Cochemea Gastelum is one of New York City's most in demand horn players, a frequent touring member of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings and a recurring saxophonist in the original band for the Broadway musical, Fela! The Brooklyn based multi-reedist has performed and/or recorded with a diverse group of artists, including Paul Simon, Antibalas and Amy Winehouse. Now, at long last, this key figure of New York City's underground Afrobeat-Soul community will drop his highly anticipated debut album, the Electric Sound of Johnny Arrow. This ten-track collection, co-produced by Adam Dorn (AKA Mocean Worker), is guaranteed to be some of the fiercest music to hit the streets this summer. Gastelum draws from his love of Eddie Harris, War and Mulatu Astatke, writing concise songs that leap from the speakers with the energy and focus of his influences, while creating a sound that is at once past, present and future. The idea for Johnny Arrow was inspired by a dream Gastelum had that related back to his Native American roots. Upon this realization, the complete vision for the album was formed. With the release of the Electric Sound of Johnny Arrow, Cochemea Gastelum steps out front and center to introduce his own voice to the fray.
