Best bicycling history book ever.
I've been an avid cyclist since the 60's and I literally "was there" during the evolution and transition of many of the bicycles, their manufacturers, successes and failures. Of particular interest to me was the evolution of the components and how the end use of the particular bicycle (road vs. mountain vs. hybrid) affected the progress. Then there is the pedigree of the European snobbery vs. the Japanese newcomers (Campy vs. Shimano and SunTour) which kept my interest. If you like the history of the different races and racers, it's all there. This is a fantastic book which is actually written by three people and not just Frank Berto who did some detailed and painstaking research in everything. If you are a true cyclist, and I don't mean racer or techno-geek, who just enjoys riding any kind of bike at all, this is the first book you should buy. It has the quality of the hardback, "coffee table" book which should be proudly displayed with easy access to anyone in your house.
