    Understand the roots of the opiate crisis and multisystem failure.

    If you wonder how we got so messed up with drugs in the US then this is the book for you. I have worked in that field as a social worker for thirty years and thought I knew a lot but this author really filled in the blanks for me. The shameful profiteering from some pharma companies as well as the government that sat on its hands while unethical physicians colluded with big pharma to sell their pills is obvious. Equally shameful was the government that put so many people on disability for no reason and that gave them the Medicaid insurance to be able to afford so many pills. What a cluster this was and Mr. Quinones skillfully documents who did what. Required reading as far as I'm concerned.

    Better than any documentary you'll ever see

    This should be required reading for every American, especially those with children. It tells the story of the heroin epidemic so beautifully, but it also tells the story of pharmaceutical advertising. I have a PhD in Molecular Biology and I have always refused to work for a large pharmaceutical company because I don't believe I'd be able to sleep at night.

    The story of opiate addiction in white, middle class America.

    Interesting facts about the intersection of pharmaceutical pain medication and black tar heroin from Mexico that have caused so much death and destruction across the country. Well researched, with compelling stories from the individuals involved, from the Doctors prescribing OxyContin, to the young sugar cane farmers from Mexico driving delivery cars with balloons full of heroin to young professionals In upper middle class suburban neighborhoods across the country.

    Dreamland by Sam Quinones

    Excellent overview of the opioid crisis. Tactics of the heroin distribution process street level across cities in America. A page turner for me. My physician recommended to me for a thrilling read.
