Good News Bible with Deuterocononicals/Apocrypha
Reviewing The Bible is somewhat non-academic. However, this Good News Bible (Today's English Version) published by the American Bible Society, stands out as the premiere English translation that uses contemporary modern day English translations from the Massoretic Text of the Old Testament and the Greek scrolls for the New Testament. Even though there are several published King James Versions of the Apocrypha that are popular among Protestants, ABS's Good News Bible with Deuterocanonical/Apocrypha targets Roman Catholic and perhaps Eastern Rite readers. Perhaps ABS will release a new Good News Bible with the Apocrypha that is more generally acceptable for Protestant readers. Until such time, the Catholic version with Apocrypha is usable by both Catholics and Protestants.
Modern translations of biblical texts often imply a complete alterartion of long-standing interpretations of Authorized or Approved text, such as found in the King James Version and the Douay–Rheims Bible. Many serious readers will compare the texts from both versions with those of the more modern Good News Bible and thereby extract fuller meanings of the texts. All biblical devotees should have a Good News Bible in their possession to help clarify some of the mystical, arcane and ancient terms used in traditional Bibles.
The Good News BIble is available in several bindings, from economy paperback, to enhanced paper back, to hardcover to padded to leather. The enhanced paper-back edition being reviewed here contains line drawings and illustrations not found in economy editions. The text is identical in all editions. Good News Bibles, both new and used are available in every price range, making access available to almost everyone: Judea-Christian or otherwise.
Very highly recommended.
