The book behind Apocalypse Now!
I just wanted to read the book that inspired the film. Its a small book & can easily be read in one sitting. It concerns an ivory trader called Kurt who turns 'native' whilst in Africa. To modern readers the fear of the black man as shown in this book is laughable...but maybe it also shows the reasons behind the kind of casual racism in modern society? This was not an easy read & certainly confusing at times...but I'm glad I read it!
