My kind of movie
John Wayne leads a cast of Hollywood's elite on a World War 2 naval adventure of epic proportions. Rear Admiral Rock Torrey (Wayne), along with his Chief of Staff (Kirk Douglas) as tasked with halting the Japanese advance on the island of LeVuvanna. This movie is filled with battles at sea and on land, romance, fear, and courage. I've watched this movie a number of times on television, but seeing it on DVD in digital presentation only heightened my enjoyment. Other cast members such as Bergess Meridith, Slim Pickens, Carroll O'Connor, and many others made me long for the days when Hollywood made movies for national pride, not just the box office profits.

John Wayne and Kirk Douglas Doing What They Do So Well
This is a WWII movie I will watch again and again. The fact that it was filmed in black and white and produced long before HD does not detract from the story in any way. The story moves right along with a few independent threads which more-or-less get resolved prior to the end. There are even a few scenes with MARSOC Raiders which intrigued me, as my oldest son is a Raider. Lastly, this movie has romance, heroism, challenges with insurmountable odds, and humor. Anyone who likes war movies is likely to enjoy this movie.

Good Movie
This movie is good for your collection of war movies. DVD was in great shape, there was content in this movie that i didn't care for, but over all once you get past that it is great movie. Its one of those movie once you watch it you don't need to see again for a long while. Not like you want to watch every week.....

"Well done navy film"
Good old black and white WWII navy flick. Top group of actors and story line. If looking for non stop action scenes, this is not the movie for you. Much of the movie revolves around personal relationships. Seen it before and had to own a copy.

Good World War II movie
I had seen this movie a long time ago, and had enjoyed it. When Memorial Day came around, I thought I would see it for free on one of the channels. I was wrong, so I ordered my own copy. I can't say I like the part Kirk Douglas plays, but I guess every movie needs to have a likable bad guy.

This movie is correctly named.
I love movies with John Wayne in them, and this is one of my favorites. My problem was finding it on DVD. This DVD plays really well and is of great quality. I am most pleased with my movie!!

A remarkable WWII movie
This is my all time favorite World War II movie. Of course the stars start with John Wayne and guest stars such as Henry Fonda does not hurt. It also May have been the last role rising child star Brandon DeWilde. He was killed in an auto accident shortly after. Kirk Douglas also adds his chirisma.

it's perfect and entertaining.
No scratches on the disc and no hesitations in the movie. It's like watching a brand new DVD.
