You can disagree, but I think this beats the original
This is one of my favorite movies. Jim Caviezel's interpretation of Edmund Dantes is refreshingly multi-layered, Guy Pearce is stellar (as always), legendary Richard Harris, perfectly played James Fran (let's face it, the guy is asked basically to play the exact same character every role he gets, and he still entertains the heck out of you), a sympathetic Dagmara Dominczyk, a not-enough-material Luis Guzman, even a pre-Superman Henry Cavill, make up a stellar cast for this timeless story of love, betrayal, revenge, and restoration. I've seen some earlier versions (including Robert Donas' benchmark version), and I think this one is the best. Portrayals are all faithful but still fresh and the cinematography is STELLAR. I recommend seeing the others, but BUY this one.

Good Plot but Not The Count of Monte Cristo
While this movie had a compelling plot, plenty of action, romance, etc., it was not the story of The Count of Monte Cristo. The producers of this movie apparently thought they could tell a better story than could Alexandre Dumas. If someone is going to make a movie, I wish they would write an original story instead of rewriting a perfectly good story. While this movie was good, if you want to see a movie truly based on The Count of Monty Cristo, find a movie that is actually based on The Count of Monte Cristo because this one isn't.

Good disc quality and value.
Value and quality of disc was excellent. Movie was a let down after reading the book…most movies are.

The Count of Monte Crisco
A must see movie it has it all in one Action, Betrayal, Comedy, Drama , Love story just to say it's a Outstanding Movie from my point of view so if you don't agree with me that's okay with me because I know you will have to say a good movie enjoy oh yeah PS to the couples out there can't go all wrong with this choice on stay at home movie night date.

A classic!
I just love this movie; very engaging with lots of action, romance and a bit of suspense. The actors chosen for the character roles are superb.

The Count of Monte Cristo is a great movie! No matter the years!
This movie has a very beautiful message! Evil for evil doesn’t solve anything. Wait on God & life to give vengeance.

Excellent period, action, and drama film
Great movie with a delightful plot, great characterization, and twists, turns, and lots of action to keep the viewer engaged. The credibility and concise explanations of the plot add special engagement. I do recommend this film!

Fits the story and the primary person of the story!
This DVD is a life story told of the primary character (the Count of Monte Cristo) and his life's trials and tribulations as well as his later life triumphs and the difficulties that come through some of those tribulations. A very good story - possibly based on a real life person (not actually said)!
