Workers renovating the London Underground discover what they at first take to be an unexploded World War II bomb. SF Classic From 1968
1968 was a watershed year for science fiction with three movies whose influence would be felt in the following years. I am talking about Planet of the Apes, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Quatermass and the PIt. I have the first two titles but getting the third has been difficult. I finally acquired it and am very happy with the purchase. The DVD was still in its packaging from 1998 and aside from some minor glitches works fine. The movie has everything: a great story, terrific actors, and excellent direction by the underrated Roy Ward Baker. Great old school sci-fi just as I remembered it!
I remembered this film from back when I first saw it during my childhood, when it was titled “Five Million Years To Earth” for U.S. release. I searched for it over the years only to come up empty. The film came to mind recently and I decided to search for it once again and that is when I learned the original UK title was “Quatermass and the Pit”. It is the exact same movie I recalled from childhood and it is even better than I remembered! There was no CGI back then and I’m glad there wasn’t. The film deals with several very advanced sci-fi themes for its day and I find the old school special effects are a stunning contrast to the ubiquitous, anything goes green screen magic prevalent these days. The DVD came brand new and factory sealed as advertised. I watched it twice already and enjoy it more each time. This is akin to those great old “Twilight Zone” episodes, the type of movie I’d scour the TV pages for and stay up all night to watch if I had to in the years before DVRs and streaming were even dreamed of. This is a bit of sci-if nostalgia that is as good or better than any of the over produced sci-fi movies we have today, and it has a great plot to boot! And with excellent performances from the cast across the board! If you are a sci-if buff l am sure you will love this movie. Highly recommended!Bestätigter Kauf: JaArtikelzustand: Neu

An excellent film in the 50s science fiction genre. Worth having.
I'm glad I finally found this dvd at a reasonable price. Initially, I borrowed one from a friend several years ago. However, when I tried to order a copy for myself, I found that one could be purchased for around $50. Outrageous. So, I kept checking over time. I found it for under $20. Great drive in movie!
Ironically, this is the last movie I saw in the drive in as a kid. I still remember it. It was a great experience. The color is just right. The story and cast are great. They keep you wanting more. EXCELLENT, CREEPY MOVIE!!
Such a cutting edge movie! Although the few special effects are rudimentary by today’s standards, what f/x that are in it are imaginative and well done. London excavation just great !

Hard to get a u.s. copy
