West Coast still relevant and BRAZY as ever!
YG, Keenon Jackson, takes West Coast Rap back to it's roots....THE STREET, and courtesy of the the staple record label of hip-hop, Def Jam Records. Real life experiences of YG getting shot, the aftermath of it, those riding his coat tails to stardom in "Gimmee Got Shot" details those hanger ons that feel entitled to something off another's success. While the title track, "Still Brazy", echoes the influence of all the greats from California throughout the album, i.e. the album implements the sounds of everyone from Cube, to Dre, Pac, Snoop and the Dogg Pound, The Game, and even a little G-funk Warren G and Nate Dogg feel. "Why you always Hatin" and "I got a question" show that YG can go bar for bar with today's best with Drake and Lil Wayne. The track "FDT", F--- Donald Trump, connects to the middle and lower class and minorities that have conflict with the new Commander in Chief's primitive views of such cultures. What this album does is prove that the West is still very relevant in hip-hop, joining Kendrick, The Game, and veterans such as Snoop, Cube, E-40, and Dre with a complete and significant album that puts a new twist on that sound only the West can put down.
