KEDI is a masterpiece! DVD is fabulous!
I was lucky enough to see Kedi in its theatrical release and was completely blown away. The DVD does not disappoint. This gorgeous, tenderly photographed movie, features the street cats of Istanbul, and the equally charming men and women who care for them. Possibly THE ultimate film to share with a cat person. Warm, compassionate and uplifting in every sense. Excellent DVD package. A pristine transfer. Enjoyable extras. A family-friendly film, guaranteed to become an enduring favorite. Spiritual food for cat people! It will comfort you when you're sad, and fill you with sheer joy when viewed with a friend. Absolutely, unequivocally must have. Also in Blu-Ray. A lovely movie for cat lovers!!!
Definitely a movie for cat lovers and animal lovers! I enjoyed the stories about the lives and human friends of some of the street cats in Istanbul. I’m not use to subtitles and had to re-watch a couple of times to get all the English translation, but even the first viewing I got the gist of everything. Cats have run free in Istanbul for thousands of years since first introduced by ancient ships. The people there regard them as a good luck tradition. I was very favorably impressed with the tolerance the Turkish people of Istanbul have toward their free roaming cats (unlike in the U.S. where way too many citizens, communities, cities, towns, want feral cats exterminated en mass instead of TNR!!) Even the few trades people in Istanbul who don’t like the cats only shoo them away from their goods—not threaten to kill them! And many stores welcome the cats going in and sleeping there for hours. (Nothing is ever said about how the Turks elsewhere in their country regard street cats—only Istanbul.) Yet, it is such a stark contrast to Americans’ attitude toward homeless cats!!! Nowhere in America would street cats be treated as well as they are there. Here Ally Cat Allies and others who feed feral cats and use TNR frequently have to fight community citizens and governments to let feral cats live in peace! But in Kedi (which is the Turkish word for cat) most of the cats had many human friends, in fact most humans were their friends, instead of harassers! But even in Istanbul where they are okay in the older traditional neighborhoods; ‘progress’ in the form of urban renewal type destruction for high-rise buildings or skyscrapers and superhighways is creating problems for the cats’ habitat. A sweet reflection on loving animals
If you like cats, this is THE movie you should see. There are so many cats with different personalities all living on the streets of Istanbul along side the city's (human) inhabitants. Seeing how they interact with the people, and how the people love them back and care for them is heartwarming. Lovely stories: cats weaving around the ankles of people eating at an outside bistro and some of the people petting them and giving them food; an old man brings a big bag of cut up fish every day on his regular walk and gives some to all the cats who are waiting for him; or, a man finds a tiny kitten he thinks is dead, but, when he sees a tiny sign of life, he cradles the little kitten in his hand and gets in a taxi to a vet for care, probably paying the bill himself. Kedi - A charmin picture of the Cats of Isatmbul
Kedi was released last summer in specialty theaters. It is ostentatiously about the cats of Istambul, their habits, personalities, charm and beauty of these animals which seem to inhabit all the corners of the great city on the Bosphorus. However we learn much more about the great city and its people, their simple and also sophisticated lives and philoshophy. In Turkish language with subtitles, it is a charming work, light and warm with some great songs. For all animal and people lovers, this is a warm recommendation. Very Engaging DVD

Kedi street cats of Istanbul
Being a cat daddy. I enjoyed movies or documentaries about animals. This one really touched me. Ceyda Torun followed these street cats and kittens around and showed how cats can interact with people and bring out the joy in people and showed how cats can make living there a much better place. A Meditative Journey Into another World

BEST CAT MOVIE YET !
Great movie and a MUST SEE for anybody who loves cats ! Cats rule Istanbul
This is an amazing film. Somehow they managed to film from that cat's perspective as well as from the human side.
