Synopsis
From the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Thousand Acres --and "a diverse and masterly writer" ( The New York Times Book Review)-- comes an enthralling epic tale, written in the tradition of the old Norse sagas, that takes us to fourteenth-century Greenland and tells the story of a proud landowner and his unforgettable family. Jane Smiley brings us to a farflung place of glittering fjords, blasting winds, sun-warmed meadows, and high, dark mountains. This is the story of one family: proud landowner Asgeir Gunnarsson; his daughter Margret, whose willful independence leads her into passionate adultery and exile; and his son Gunnar, whose quest for knowledge is at the compelling center of this unforgettable book. Jane Smiley immerses us in this world of farmers, priests, and lawspeakers, of hunts and feasts and long-standing feuds, and by an act of literary magic, makes a remote time, place, and people not only real but dear to us., Smiley gives readers a magnificant novel of 14th century Greenland. Rich with fascinating detail about day-to-day life, The Greenlanders is also the compelling story of one family. Echoing the simple power of old Norse sagas, The Greenlanders brings a remote civilization to unforgettable life., This enthralling epic tale, written in the tradition of the old Norse sagas, takes us to fourteenth-century Greenland--a farflung place of glittering fjords, blasting winds, sun-warmed meadows, and high, dark mountains. - v***v (21)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufSeller responded quickly to all questions, but it took a week to ship and another 10 days for delivery. The item matches the description, so if shipping time is not critical, this seller can be recommended.
- a***h (26)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufThe book was competitively priced, ordering was easy, the book was well packaged and arrived safely, and its condition was exactly as specified. The delivery time from ordering to mailbox was a little long (14 days), but overall it was a good experience and I would use this seller again. The Anglo-Saxons Format: General/trade (Nr. 364636024820)
- 1***b (476)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzter MonatBestätigter KaufThe condition and value of the book are 100% wonderful. My only disappointment was with the shipping process , the item was only shipped after I conveyed my displeasure that the book did not leave their facility for a week. They were unapologetic, by the time I told them to cancel the order, they informed me that it was on it's way, but shipping information did not support it.
