Based on the children's fantasy by Antoine de Saint-Exupčry and embraced by the soaring music of Lerner and Loewe, the musical story of a pilot's crash in the Sahara Desert and his encounter with a strange little boy receives the glowing attention to detail, color, and charm that a film adaptation of such a beloved book deserves. As the downed pilot listens to the little boy's story of his travels to distant planets and the strange people and animals he encounters, the airman realizes that the boy's wisdom and perception are going to change how he himself sees the world. Well known for his richly voiced narration, supporting-role TV and movie appearances, and powerful leads in Broadway plays, Richard Kiley stars as the pilot whose world is overturned physically by the crash of his plane and philosophically by his encounter with the prince from another planet. The Little Prince himself (Steven Warner) made only this one feature film. And although Lerner, Loewe, and Donen all created thriving film-musical careers, THE LITTLE PRINCE and ROYAL WEDDING were the only musicals on which Lerner and Donen ever collaborated.

A grand fantasy excursion
An engaging film based on the famous children's fable by Antoine St. Exupery who was a pilot contemporary of Lindbergh and Earhart. Filmed in Tunisia and England and directed by one of America's greatest film directors and choreographers, Stanley Donen. A wonderful cast including Richard Kiley, Gene Wilder and Bob Fosse. the music for this film was composed by Lerner and Lowe who were the creators of My Fair Lady. Simply put the story involves a young child who comes from another world who is on a quest to find truth and meaning in life. My favorite moment is when the Little Prince meets The Snake who is portrayed by Bob Fosse. Many references in the film about good and evil. A fable for all ages and an entertaining cinematic journey. I recommend it highly.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!
I LOVED this 1974 version and have watched it multiple times as each time I watch it I see something different. The actors (Pilot, Little Prince, the Fox and Snake) are fantastic and the lyrics to the songs touching.

I love it l has the movie on vhs but it be startin to fade in quality so now l be glad to has it on dvd l watched it last week when it came in the mail

Blast from the past
