It is Blur's first album since The Magic Whip (2015) and thier first album since Think Tank (2003) not to be produced by their longtime producer Stephen Street.

unexpect the expected because great this record is!
8 years removed from the unexpected greatness of "the Magic Whip", "the Ballad of Darren" eclipses those recordings with an amazingness equally unexpected yet not surprising. Blur present themselves as mature and as a band collaborating together for the benefit of both themselves and the listening fans. This deluxe version gives you two extra songs that are worth the cost and leaves you after one listen saying what just happened here. The layered guitar textures, the rhythm section, the vocal harmonies and the tunes themselves leave you very satisfied and with a discovery of sounds that appear after each repeated listen. A real treat.
