SynopsisThe classic bestselling war memoir by the most decorated American soldier in World War II, back in print in a trade paperback Originally published in 1949, To Hell and Back was a smash bestseller for fourteen weeks and later became a major motion picture starring Audie Murphy as himself. More than fifty years later, this classic wartime memoir is just as gripping as it was then. Desperate to see action but rejected by both the marines and paratroopers because he was too short, Murphy eventually found a home with the infantry. He fought through campaigns in Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. Although still under twenty-one years old on V-E Day, he was credited with having killed, captured, or wounded 240 Germans. He emerged from the war as America's most decorated soldier, having received twenty-one medals, including our highest military decoration, the Congressional Medal of Honor. To Hell and Back is a powerfully real portrayal of American GI's at war., The classic bestselling war memoir by the most decorated American soldier in World War II, back in print in a trade paperback. • Hero

Audie Murphy had several things going for him, bravery, tenacity, the ability to think on his feet and luck. The 1st 1/3 of the book is a bit slow, the rest of the book you wonder how the hell he made it through the war alive. There are several others in his story who were equally brave but were not so lucky. We should all appreciate how easy our lives are thanks to these heros and never forget the sacrifices they made for the future of America.

This great by and about Audie Murphy was a really great read. Especially the no abridged comments and emotions come from a very young man just starting life. It is about him and not all the medals he won. You will see him for who he was. Highly recommend this book.

  • Audie Murphy was indeed a hero!

Audie Murphy's memoir is fantastic. It tells us how the war was fought, what our soldiers went through, what they did to stay together and fight. It also tells how they felt when their men were killed. Some of the conversations between soldiers are different, not understandable, or mean, but if that was what occurred in the war, I'm glad he put it in.

  • A great read.

It tells the story of an American soldier who fought during World War Two and the hardships he endured and how he won the Medal of Honor. We need to remember our heroes and what they did to keep us safe and free.
