A non-Holocaust book and movie about the Holocaust
My wife and I watched the movie and it was truly outstanding. Totally engrossing. I immediately ordered the book for her because I knew it would be every bit as good. According to my wife, the book differs from the movie but is every bit as good. The movie is billed as an adaptation, so no problems there. What I really like about the movie and what my wife told me about the book, is that the movie has the holocaust in France as a back story, but the real story is about Sarah and the people in her life. The character development is superb. I don't want to give away too much of the story, but at the very beginning you will learn that Sarah's family lives in a section of Paris that is primarily Jewish. After the occupation of Paris, the Nazis step in and start deporting the Jews. Sarah hides her little brother in a closet and Sarah and her parents are taken to a stadium that is an assembly area for transportation to the camps. I will stop there. For me, most holocaust stories, such as Schindler's list, are very difficult to watch, for good reason. Sarah's Key is very tense, but it is not depressing, and it depicts human life in an uplifting way even in the midst of tragedy. engaging, inspiring, enlightening!

True historical event!

A must-read -- for EVERYONE
This should be required reading for every man woman and child on the planet. Genocide is evil and ruins so many people's lives -- and those are the survivors, to say nothing of the victims. Very well done story, absolutely riveting. Heartbreaking, and yet uplifting believe it or not. It will change you forever. Can't say enough about it. Books about the holocaust are a hard recommendation. Great book!!!
