'… the well-known and charming introduction to number theory … can be recommended both for independent study and as a reference text for a general mathematical audience.' European Maths Society Journal, 'Although this book is not written as a textbook but rather as a work for the general reader, it could certainly be used as a textbook for an undergraduate course in number theory and, in the reviewer's opinion, is far superior for this purpose to any other book in English.' From a review of the first edition in Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society, '... the well-known and charming introduction to number theory ... can be recommended both for independent study and as a reference text for a general mathematical audience.' Synopsis
Now into its Eighth edition, The Higher Arithmetic introduces the classic concepts and theorems of number theory in a way that does not require the reader to have an in-depth knowledge of the theory of numbers The theory of numbers is considered to be the purest branch of pure mathematics and is also one of the most highly active and engaging areas of mathematics today. Since earlier editions, additional material written by J. H. Davenport has been added, on topics such as Wiles' proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, computers & number theory, and primality testing. Written to be accessible to the general reader, this classic book is also ideal for undergraduate courses on number theory, and covers all the necessary material clearly and succinctly., The theory of numbers is generally considered to be the 'purest' branch of pure mathematics and demands exactness of thought and exposition from its devotees. It is also one of the most highly active and engaging areas of mathematics. Now into its eighth edition The Higher Arithmetic introduces the concepts and theorems of number theory in a way that does not require the reader to have an in-depth knowledge of the theory of numbers but also touches upon matters of deep mathematical significance. Since earlier editions, additional material written by J. H. Davenport has been added, on topics such as Wiles' proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, computers and number theory, and primality testing. Written to be accessible to the general reader, with only high school mathematics as prerequisite, this classic book is also ideal for undergraduate courses on number theory, and covers all the necessary material clearly and succinctly., Now into its eighth edition and with additional material on primality testing written by J. H. Davenport, The Higher Arithmetic introduces concepts and theorems in a way that does not assume an in-depth knowledge of the theory of numbers but touches upon matters of deep mathematical significance.

- e***r (1)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter KaufI am based in the UK and the bookstore wrapped the books perfectly for the journey. The books were exactly as they had appeared in the photos (nowadays I find there are a lot of used books catfishing a lot of people). Not this occasion. I do not know how they were procured or where they are stored, but they were in near mint condition, again as described. Excellent value for money, including the postage which was completely fair. I will be looking out again in this store for more books!

- u***6 (10)- Bewertung vom Käufer.Letzte 6 MonateBestätigter Kauf"Great Service from the Seller – Highly Recommended!" As a customer from China, I haven’t received the book yet, but I’m already very impressed with the seller’s excellent service! Their communication was prompt and friendly, and they provided clear updates about my order. Even though international shipping takes time, their professionalism and care have made this a pleasant shopping experience. I truly appreciate their efforts and can’t wait to read the book when it arrives. Thank you!Gimpel the Fool by Isaac Bashevis Singer Franklin Library limited ed. SIGNED (Nr. 386154277156)
