Reviews"Showcasing the rise of a generation of cycling superstars, Shoulder to Shoulder explores the peak years of Jacques Anquetil's career with a restored collection of rare photographs." -- VeloNews magazine "The Horton Collection's lastest masterpiece... is no chronological time lapse of Anquetil's career and adversaries. The array of photos is more musical, more sweeping. And more shocking... There are moments displayed for which many of us would give an organ to have witnessed first-hand." -- Red Kite Prayer "Beautifully reproduced images. The photos are wonderfully atmospheric. Enchanting. There are plenty of action shots, again with excellent detail and beautiful composition. An excellent addition what what seems to have become a Horton Collection series." - Pezcyclingnews.com "I have spent several hours in deep reverie, slowly turning the pages of Shoulder to Shoulder ...Such a compact, bijou, and ultimately desirable book...Brilliant." - The Washing Machine Post "Stunning photography from the era." - Canadian Cycling magazine "With a copy of Shoulder to Shoulder in your lap it's almost like you've been invited to The Horton Collection to see their photos without ever leaving your comfy couch and your Campari & soda." - CycleItalia " Shoulder to Shoulder is a coffee table book around which groups (or bunches) of cycling enthusiasts will gather to drool over black and white photos from the glory days of competitive racing." -- Bicycles.net "These glimpses of cycling in the sixties are welcome, as are the images of the punishing circuits, the mercurial weather, and the crashes that came about as a result of both. But the focus of Shoulder to Shoulder is Anquetil... It all looks impossibly romantic and dashing, which, not coincidentally, was exactly the impression the world was given of Jacques Anquetil." -- Boing Boing "The wonderful black and white images capture many action-packed race scenes, scenes of suffering, and scenes of celebration. There are lots of bloodied faces and riders slogging over mountain passes completely awash in mud and slush. There are also many candid moments, some of which are downright whimsical... Shoulder to Shoulder is a beautiful collection that any serious cycling fan should check out. Brett and Shelly Horton should really be thanked for preserving so many rare and iconic images and artifacts from cycling's past, and putting them so lovingly into the hands of bicycle racing fans across multiple generations." -- Retrogrouch, Praise for Goggles & Dust from The Horton Collection "Collected from over 170,000 original vintage photographs, Goggles & Dust is a must-have for any cycling enthusiast. It's the perfect way to celebrate and honor the sport's earliest heroes." -- Bicycling " Goggles & Dust is one of those wonderful coffee table photo albums, offering a glimpse into the photo archives of the Horton Collection. It allows the cycling fan the opportunity to read their own stories into the pictures presented." -- Podium Café "This book, with over 100 expertly restored photographs, brings to life the rigors, triumphs, and soul of competitive cycling in a way that words alone never could." -- ForeWord magazine, 'eoeShowcasing the rise of a generation of cycling superstars, Shoulder to Shoulder explores the peak years of Jacques Anquetil'e(tm)s career with a restored collection of rare photographs.'e 'e" VeloNews magazine 'eoeThe Horton Collection'e(tm)s lastest masterpiece'e¦ is no chronological time lapse of Anquetil'e(tm)s career and adversaries. • Shoulder to Shoulder

This is a companion book to Goggles and Dust and is in every way just as enjoyable. The book opens with an introduction about cycling during the time of Anduetil's reign, the passing from Coppi's era and the impact of Anquetil's contribution to the sport. Unlike its predecessor this book closes with a notes section that expands on the images throughout the book. As in Goggles & Dust, the images are incredibly clean, clear and crisp. The captions are concise and to the point and portray a true sense of the times. Many images are shown for the first time. This is the era of Anquetil before Merckx and the redefining of athletics in general in European society. Anquetil was a mercurial athlete who forever changed the face of his sport. The book centers primarily on the 60's and the images show every manner of cycling from the times. There are some incredible action images contained here. I highly recommend both books and I hope the Horton collection will continue to release more selections from its vast inventory of prints and negatives. I hope you've found this review helpful. Thanks

  • Photo chronicle of cycling's golden age.

Outstanding photos from the golden age of European professional cycling, before Big Money and today's sophisticated doping regimens* ruined the sport. Many of the riders depicted are still with us today. An excellent companion volume to the book "Goggles and Dust." by the same publisher. *Not to say that doping never existed in some form..."You can't ride the Tour de France on mineral water." -J. Anquetil.
