A "Must Read" for Students of Naval Leadership
For the student of World War II history, especially as it pertains to the US Navy in the Pacific Theater, this biography is a "must read." Raymond Spruance is perhaps the least well-known of the senior naval commanders of the period, but his successes place him high among the greatest fleet admirals of any nation or any era. Certainly no admiral before or since has commanded a larger or more powerful naval force (and likely never will). The book itself is exceedingly well researched and well written. In conjunction with the biographies of Chester Nimitz and William F. Halsey, it gives a broad and deep insight into the unique and complimentary skills and leadership traits that enabled the successful prosecution of the war in the Pacific from 1941 through 1945.
