  • A sublime specimen of well balanced, sharp and pointy art

This is my second purchase of this awesome blade. I loved my first one so much that I had to have a backup for it. It's a great design. Anyone who loves all things sharp and pointy should have at least one.

  • Schrade Priscilla SCHMBS Brush Sword

Schrade Priscilla SCHMBS Is it of good quality ? ================= Here is the tricky part. Mine seems to be a decent steel. Right out of the box I've gone out and chopped a huge wedge out of an 8" pine log, cut thru 2" saplings with one stroke, a;ways striking with the belly. After a bit of chopping I can still cut paper with the edge at the belly... no dents, dings, roll overs. The coating is still unmarred. And it all cleans up great with a little mineral oil. The grip is good and springy. I feel absolutely no shock. It is grippy even when wet. My issue with the quality is with the overall grinding. There is a straight run from the tip to the belly. Well, the belly was ground a little to far so there is a small indent instead, giving an odd look and making me worry about the strength of the tip. Also, there is a swedge ground up at the spine. The right side swedge ends a full 1 inch closer to the tip than the left. I expect some imperfections like the start of the swedge not being exactly matched, but the end being so far off. It looks like who/what ground it drug the blade a little against the grinder. This is purely cosmetic, unlike the tip issue, and is only noticeable if you are paying attention to detail. Now, I had the pine log laid out at waist height, and was sinking the blade pretty deep with shoulder to waist chops with moderate power. I was not putting real power behind it but cut a wedge almost halfway with maybe 8 strokes. This brush sword bites good. I DID NOT do oddball, non-machete things with this brush sword like trying to baton a log or throw it into a tree. I also did not try to pry anything. Even without the mis-grind at the tip I wouldn't do that with a standard machete so I avoided it with this. I stuck to machete-type tasks. There is a reason this thing is called a "Brush Sword" and not a machete. Despite it's considerable 1 pound weight the Priscilla is insanely agile. Zorro could carve a 2" Z without slowing down. You will have a lot of fun playing Ninja Alaskan Homesteader if you want. Is it a Good Value ? ================= If you just want a machete to do a few things around the yard then... hmmm... you could buy a cheap machete for a third the price and probably be happy. BUT you wont get one with a deep belly like the Priscilla SCHMBS has. If you have not used a deep belly machete then you have cheated yourself and worked to hard. Mine has held up better than other Schrade products. I own a scaxe2l, schf52m, and a schf9. So far this brush sword has held up better than everything but the schf9. From what I am seeing this SCHMBS will be in my tool kit for a long time to come. I think it is a good value. So much so I want a second for my left hand. Do You Recommend It ? ===================== If you just want a machete, then a solid "Maybe". If you want something that is "more", something very agile, deep chopping, looks awesome, then YES, buy one! Caveats ======== I bought the Schrade SCHF52M based on a couple youTube reviews. Afterwards I found a couple videos where testers broke the blade on their SCH52M. So, I took both the knife and the brush sword out and used them for tasks that they were meant for. They both held up well. In fact the Schrade Priscilla brush sword held up better than the knife. If you have an issue with your particular brush sword the word is Schrade will make it right. ====================== Update 3-9-17 Got a second one of these. Way better grind job... BUT, the new one is about 1/2" shorter and about 1/16th inch narrower across the profile than the first one. And wayyyyyy duller. Butter knife dull. Also the retention strap was put on with the sheath empty and slightly compressed making closing it with the blade in the sheath a bit of an effort. Again, this cost me 40 bucks so I am just happy the blade itself is great.

  • Schrade delivers

Schrade does a great job of producing nice quality knives that are reasonably priced enough that you aren't afraid to actually use them. Priscilla has a good sheath, is nicely balanced and good looking.

  • Best in its price range!!

Suprizingly good performance! As mentioned in other ratings it has a very fine tip that I bent pretty quick.. but it didn't break off.. I straightened it and went back to chopping.. very agile and could be extremely dangerous if used carelessly.. all said and done it's an awsome knife/machete..

  • Danger.

Works great, but the first thing I did was break off the tip about a quarter inch. Less likely to cause blood loss. No pain no pain.
