Absolute Classics
This box set is pure nostalgic indulgence . Absolutely superb. Basil Rathbone is a seriously brilliant Holmes. This is often overlooked because he was seriously let down by the awful scripts. But the way his portrayal of Holmes is simply superior. The sharp concise manner and way of speaking. I admit that the films in themselves are not very good, but that's not the point. They just pure unadulterated pleasure. Even the scenes with the bumbling ever inept Watson (Nigel Bruce) . Yes they give cause to cringe, but there are fun and add to the enjoyment. I love the sharp catty comments that Holmes frequently makes to Watson, with a dead pan expression and sarcastic voice. In one film , the ever bumbling Watson has to keep watch one night. As per usual he falls asleep, later when challenged by Holmes, he denies he was sleeping, Holmes tells him ' he was snoring like a Pig !" It's so funny, because of the way Rathbone says it. The scrips and plots are quite bad, some of the acting is REALLY Hammy. Despite all of this a certain grandeur creeps into these films. They are and remain to my mind, simply magnificent. I ABSOLUTELY love them, and it gives me great pleasure every time I rewatch one. Great fun and extremely entertaining. Great classics.

Complete Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes boxset - Universal and TCF films - excellent prints.
The boxsets I've seen before only have the 12 Universal films from the 1940s - this one also has the two excellent TCF films from 1939. The Universal prints are the best in existence - generally very good. Rathbone is the definitive Sherlock Holmes and this boxset of classic Holmes films is of great interest to all serious Holmes fans.

All of my favorite Holmes' movies
Good menus, great picture quality and a nice box to boot. All of my favorite Holmes' stories in one set that show case how great Basil Rathbone was in the part and probably my favorite Watson too (though his character does change depending on the tone of the film making him less fun in some of the outings) it's hard to go wrong and made for a great few evenings worth of entertainment. Highly recommended.

This classic collection boxset contains the classic movies,updated sound/pucture,,amazing value for money,loads of in depth info about holmes 10/10
very entertaining, my all time fav, is THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES™„„it plays out like a hammer horror movie,, the picture quality(with all discs) is fantastic,, I've seen this box set on sale for £60:99,,I got mine for less than £5:09,,absolutely amazing,, my rating 10/10,,

Beautiful
Brilliant standard of reproduction. Having watched one or two of these films in their original format on the telly, with their poor quality sound tracks and hisses, marks, lines and blotches, it was an absolute joy to see these films recovered and looking almost pristine. Congratulations to the team responsible. Admittedly quite a few are hopeless, or hopelessly dated. But Thanks

Sherlock Holmes with Basil Rathbone
Bought this set of Sherlock Holmes dvd,s for my son and he watched them all in a week or two. He has now lent them to me. Only watched one so far but have seen them all at some time or other. Basil Rathbone is the definative Holmes. Good value package would recommend.

Not a scriptwriter no title
Very pleased with this box set picture slightly dark that's very atmospheric I would personally say say the picture on these DVDs is better than the picture you get on the telly the stories are not too long and quite entertaining as I said before well worth the money

Promt delivery nice box with pictures inside and cards great to see the classic partnership of Basil Rathbone and nigel bruce once more the best Watson ever.in glorious black and white that adds that all impotent atmosphere watched them all two every night brilliant
