Product Information

Crosville Motor Services was one of the most important regional bus operators that ultimately became part of the NBC. Its services dominated all of the North Wales, from Holyhead eastwards as far south as a line from Aberystwyth to Oswestry. It also served other areas such as Cheshire, the Wirral Peninsula, and southern Merseyside. The company was formed as the Crosville Motor Co Ltd on 27 October, 1906 in Chester by George Crosland Taylor and Georges de Ville. Though it was initially set up to manufacture cars, its first bus services began in 1909. In 1929 the LMSR became involved with the operator, and in 1948 the company passed to the British Transport Commission as part of the Tilling Group. In 1969 it became part of the NBC and the company's areas of operations were expanded, but the operator itself was destined to be broken up prior to Deregulation and Privatisation. The name itself finally disappeared at the end of March 1990. This colour album provides a nostalgic history of the Crosville company, covering the years from the mid 1950s to the 1970s. With a range of predominantly unpublished photographs supported by well-researched captions, this book will be essential reading for all those who wish to learn more about the company, and for the many people who remember travelling on its services.

  • Exeiient transport history.

This book reminds me of my younger days when these buses were part of my every day life in Liverpool & Rhyl in the 50s & 60s onwards, interesting models and very comfortable to ride on very well designed and colour schemes.
