Outstanding story telling, dramatizing a little know event in the War Between the States.
This is a superb film. I first saw it in 1955, when I was 13 years old. I went back repeatedly to watch it again and again. It presents a positive, heroic view of the soldiers of the Confederacy, fighting for the independence of their country. In our age of anti-Southern bias, this film could never be produced. It is a treasure left to us from a lost time of fairness and balanced historical judgment. It leads viewers to understand and sympathize with both sides in a tragic war. Fair portrayals of all characters
